There is not enough room to mention all the memorable
events or stories so I'll narrow it down to one.
Half-time of the State Championship game in the "Horse
Shoe" at Ohio State. We come in the locker room with an
unspoken thought of being lucky we are tied at 7-7 to Warren
Kennedy. They are bigger and stronger than us and have moved
the ball all over the field. Accept for a "special" play
before the half for a touchdown, we haven't hardly moved the
ball on offense. Maybe there is a feeling of satisfaction
that we've made it this far, state runner-up is good and the
biggest achievement in our school history. No doubt that
massive line with those big backs will take a toll on us the
second half.
Then Coach Miller comes into the area of the locker room
I was sitting. With fire in his eyes, teeth gritting, spit
flying and face beet red he said...."Men, 2nd ain't SHIT!
No one remembers 2nd place and we didn't come all the hell
the way up here to be 2nd. We are in great shape, they are
tired...Now Lets Go Get The Job Done, Damn-it!"
Needless to say, We got the job done!
